One more in a string of night fires in the 300 and 400 blocks of Moffat Boulevard caused a $55,000 loss to a mobile home and its contents late Tuesday night from a fire that started in an outbuilding.

Manteca Fire Battalion Chief Randy May reported that firefighters arrived on the scene in less than four minutes after a 911 call was fielded by a dispatcher.  He said firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence in a mobile home park at 317 Moffat Blvd. with the fire threatening other mobile homes.

May added that all residents of mobile homes near the fire made it out safely as firemen used multiple hose lines to protect the adjacent residences while simultaneously attacking the heart of the fire.   The blaze was brought under control within some 10 minutes, he said.

Emergency callback procedures were put into effect and fulltime firefighters responded from their homes along with reserve firefighters, he said.

May noted that reserves helped at the scene while the fulltime firefighters, who had responded from home,  staffed the empty fire stations and answered calls to other emergencies within the city.  Fire crews remained on the scene for some three hours performing salvage, overhaul and fire investigation that is reportedly ongoing.

The 10:30 p.m. fire comes on the heels of other recent middle-of-the-night fires on Moffat Boulevard that leveled former packing sheds, a service station/muffler shop along with a motel fire.

There were 22 fire personnel who responded to the fire – 15 career firefighters and seven reserves – in addition to a Lathrop-Manteca fire engine.  A Manteca District Ambulance unit was also on standby at the scene.
