10% of targeted Mantecans receive second COVID shot

A tenth of Manteca’s targeted population has received the second COVID-19 vaccine.

Manteca’s 6,078th resident got the second shot as part of the 10.2 percent of the targeted population as the 99th local death was recorded Monday. There have been 12,955 or 21.36 percent of the 60,638 targeted residents in Manteca that have received the first shot.

Vaccines for children are not expected to be available until next year.

Of Ripon’s targeted population of 12,338, 13.24 percent (1,634) have received the second shot and 26.18 percent (3,230) have received the first shot. Lathrop, with a targeted population of 16,745, 9.01 percent (1,509) have received the second shot and 18.89 percent (3,163) have received the first shot.

Countywide 6.12 percent of the targeted population of 562,701 has received both shots and 14.42 percent have received one shot.

There were 1,210 active positive cases as of Monday, a number reflective of mid-October. Everyone that tests positive will not necessarily become ill.

Since last year 67,395 of San Joaquin County’s 767,000 residents have caught COVID-19 with 64,996 recovering.

The death count as of Monday stands at 1,210. Both Ripon and Lathrop have recorded 17 deaths apiece.

 Hospitals in San Joaquin County report having 91 COVID positive patients admitted for care as of Monday. Demand for intensive care services remains high with adult intensive care units (ICU) operating at 107% of licensed bed capacity. San Joaquin County hospitals report 3 patient deaths due to COVID in the past 24 hours.

Over the past week, the number of COVID hospitalizations has decreased by 9.9%.
