Another 97 hotel rooms could be on their way to Lathrop – adding to a growing number of companies that are looking to expand along the I-5 corridor.

On Wednesday, May 18, the Lathrop Planning Commission will consider an application for a conditional use permit and a site plan review that would allow a TownePlace Suites by Marriott to open on Golden Valley Parkway – the second on the west side of I-5.

The first hotel on the west side of I-5 – a Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott – is already under construction.

The Planning Commission meets on the third Wednesday of every month inside of the council chambers at Lathrop City Hall – located at 390 Towne Centre Drive – at 6 p.m.

According to the application submitted for consideration, the building would be four stories in height and would encompass 53,493 square feet – including 97 guest rooms, a lobby and breakfast area, an open-air patio lounge with a sports court, a pool and spa, a barbecue area, and a fitness center.

The hotel is part of an expanding class of facilities geared towards “productivity-oriented business travelers” as well as recreational guests, and there are 470 TownePlace Suites locations spanned across three continents.

The rooms inside of the hotel will be made up of 44 king bed rooms and 53 double queen bed rooms, and will range in size from 326 square feet to 547 square feet. Approximately 28 percent of the total parcel will be landscaped – nearly doubling the 15 percent requirement – and there will be a total of 103 parking spaces to accommodate for one space per guest room plus one space for each employee.

If approved, the hotel will join the Fairfield Inn and Suites and a Tru by Hilton on the opposite side of the freeway as new lodging facilities that were approved and added to the city in recent years. Lathrop’s position at the confluence of I-5 and the Highway 120 Bypass and its close proximity to the I-205 gateway to the Bay Area make it an ideal location for both travelers and those conducting business in the area.
