Several area schools will take part in the annual San Joaquin County Academic Decathlon Competition, Super Quiz, and Awards on Feb. 3.
Included will be host Lathrop High, consisting of 22 members, in the Division I Teams (Class) competition – Ripon High, Stagg, Tracy, Middle College, and SECA are also be part of that group.
Manteca High and Sierra High will compete in the Division II Teams (Club) event.
Lathrop, Sierra, and Manteca will also have participants in Division III, according to the San Joaquin County Office of Education.
SJCOE kicked off the competition on Jan. 19 with the speeches and interviews.
The big one-day event will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 3) with check-in in the Large Gym at Lathrop High, 647 Spartan Wy.
This year’s Academic Decathlon theme is “Technology & Humanity.”
The event will cover subject areas such as Art, Economics, Literature, Mathematics, Music, Science, and Social Science.
Testing is scheduled from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with the Super Quiz taking place from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Awards Ceremony will begin at 3:45 p.m., and will consist of the following:
· Alternates Awards – First through third places in all objective tests, and top (three) scoring alternates.
· Division III Awards – First through third places, objective and essay. Top scoring athletes (first through third) in Super Quiz and Overall.
· Division I and II Awards – First through third in all events, Top scoring decathletes (first through third) in Super Quiz and Overall.
