Apartment fire kills dog at Sandpiper complex
Fire Engine

A pet Pomeranian died in an apartment fire at 10 a.m. Friday in apartment 106 at the Sandpiper Village comnplex on Pennebaker Way, east of Highway 99 and north of Yosemite Avenue.
Manteca Fire Battalion Chief Chris Jelinek said the fire broke out in a back bedroom apparently from an electrical source.  One person was home at the time. Jelinek she had heard a noise inside the bedroom. When she opened the door, she was met by flames that soon spread into upstairs apartment 206 and into the attic.
Mutual aid came into Manteca from surrounding areas – Ripon, Lathrop and Tracy – manning the emptied Manteca stations that had responded to the blaze firefighters feared would spread into surrounding apartment units.
