Steve Droullard was a beloved figure at East Union High.

He was known for his love of music and helping students achieve their career and college goals.

The former music teacher and retired school counselor, at age 71, passed away five months ago in Modesto.

East Union High, meanwhile, is looking to dedicate a bench on-campus in his memory.

Jessica Macgregor, who was one of Droullard’s students, led the effort.

“She asked if she could purchase a memorial bench for our school in his honor,” said EU Principal Raul Mora.

He shared the letter from Macgregor, which read: “Mr. Droullard believed in me when no one else did. I did not have a dad growing up and he stepped in as a father figure.

“It was because of him I became a first-generation college student – he was a positive influence in my life and helped me through some very difficult times.”

A dedication ceremony is planned at the school on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 4:30 p.m. in the EU quad.

“We are thankful that Mr. Droullard had such a positive impact on his students as a counselor and that his spirit of guidance and passion for student success will always serve as a foundation for our East Union family as we continue to strive daily to become the world’s greatest high school,” Mora added.
