Cooling zone offered to beat heat this weekend in Manteca, Lathrop

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Turlock and the whole Northern San Joaquin Valley starting Saturday and going through Tuesday.

An excessive heat warning was issued for this weekend by the National Weather Service.

“A sweltering and extremely heat wave will plaque the West this weekend,” the weather service said from its Sacramento office.

The forecast calls for a high of 107 degrees for Saturday, and more sunny and hot conditions with a high of 111 on Sunday.

Locally, the City of Manteca has designated the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Ln., as this weekend’s Cooling Center.

Those seeking refuge from the hot conditions can drop by from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The City of Lathrop is hosting Cooling Zones from noon to 7 p.m.

The lobby in the Lathrop Generations Center, 450 Spartan Wy., will accommodate those seeking to beat the heat on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Cooling Zone moves to the Lathrop Senior Center lobby, 15707 Fifth St.

The Cooling Zone will close if no one arrives at those two locations by 6 p.m.
