The process to fill a vacancy on the Ripon City Council is currently underway.

Those interested in running for the post formerly held by Tim Wheeler can pick up an application at Ripon City Hall, 259 N. Wilma Ave., during business hours or download one at www.cityofripon.org.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, residet within the corporate city limits, and be registered to vote in the City of Ripon at the time the application is issued.

The application period ends at 5:30 p.m. today.

No application will be accepted after that deadline.

The Ripon City Council will review each of the applications and schedule an oral interview on a date to be announced.

At last Monday’s meeting, elected leaders approved Nov. 23 for a special session to review the applications and determine as to which format to use for the interviews and the scoring methodology.

They also agreed to schedule Dec. 2 special meeting to conduct the application interviews to possibly determine the provisional appointment by the Dec. 14 monthly session.

Wheeler officially stepped down from his post last week. He and his family moved to Montana but he will still be connected to Ripon with several business ventures in the works. In addition, he’ll continue to operate his CPA in town.

Wheeler was elected to his Council seat in November 2020. The provisional appointment will finish out that second year of the four-year term but would be required to run in the November 2022 general election – a two-year term – in order to maintain that seat.
