The East Union High Class of 2025 shared one lasting memory Friday – graduation.

The special standing room-only event at Dino Cunial Field featured about 370 or so seniors, who were awarded diplomas for their accomplishments of the past four years.

Class salutatorian Damien Horat, who was on of several student speakers during the hour-long ceremony, acknowledged the people in the crowd for making graduation possible.

Included were the families who provided unwavering support along with friends and teachers.

“I thank my friends, who made these last four years not only bearable but also memorable,” he said.

Horat went on to also praise his teachers – he singled out his English teacher for providing words of wisdom “to be honest with yourself” at the end of each day.

Valedictorian Johnie Valencia noted the many memories that helped shaped him during his time at East Union High, from classroom routines to his place at the lunch table coupled with late night study sessions.

“It made us who we are,” he said.

Like many of his classmates, Valencia is moving from the comforts of the past four years to a new and uncertain chapter in his life.

“It’s good to be nervous. The truth is: none of us have figured it out (on what’s ahead),” he added.

As for Senior Class President Sarah Peterson, she mentioned the word “freedom,’ adding: “It gives us the power to choose.”

She indicated that each of the new graduates now have the freedom to form their unique path in going forward from this evening.

The graduation program opened with ASB President Tyler Dobbins welcoming those in attendance.

ASB Secretary Laci Lopez led in the Pledge of Allegiance with EU JROTC Color Guards doing the presentation of colors.

Senior Chloe Ente performed the National Anthem followed by Senior Class Vice President Mariah Amaral giving special recognition.

Senior Class Secretary Payton Adams provided the history of Camelot Court.

The special guest introductions were conducted by Sakara Fontenot and Gracie Balis Carrillo.

EU Principal Eric Simoni made the presentation of the Class of 2025 to Manteca Unified board President Stephen Schluer for the awarding of the diplomas.

The moment also echoed what Valencia earlier said to his classmates: “Keep working hard, keep growing, and congratulation to the Class of 2025.”
