The Manteca Planning Commission will consider a conditional use permit for a “premium entertainment lounge” in downtown when they meet Thursday at 6 p.m.

Dubbed “Levelz Lounge”, the endeavor is envisioned in a vacant 2,988 square-foot building at 159 W. Yosemite Avenue sandwiched between Tipton’s and a vacant storefront that most recently sold Amazon liquidation items.

The hour of operations being proposed are 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Sunday with special event operations Monday through Wednesday.

The nightclub will feature live music as well as a disc jockey.

It is anticipated to have seven staff members plus four to five security personnel.

They will close the entrance if the maximum occupancy permitted is reached.

The applicant places maximum occupancy at 99 people but a staff report indicated the exact number has yet to be determined.

The city’s economic development conditions of approval requires security personnel, submittal of a security plan, and putting in place measures to limit the need for police calls.

The single-story building was constructed in 1917 and has had at least 13 businesses occupying the space according to the staff report.

It is the latest in downtown concerns that have a drinking component.

Within a block or two is the Deaf Puppy Club, the Brethren Brewery, and the R&B Lounge featuring wine/beer/seltzers/ciders.

The mix also includes The Vernada Events Center plus several restaurants with beer and wine licenses.
