Eastbound 120 Bypass closure starts March 31
120 Bypass logo

The eastbound lanes of the 120 Bypass from Interstate 5 to Airport Way will be closed for 64 hours starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, March 31.

Eastbound lanes are anticipated to reopen by 2 p.m. on Monday, April 3.

The closure is needed for work on the McKinley Avenue interchange project.

The westbound lanes will remain open.

Highway traffic from Interstate 5 is being advised to use Highway 4/Crosstown Freeway in Stockton  or Highway 132 to Modesto for eastbound travel.

Local motorists are advised to use the Lathrop Road or Louise Avenue on and off-ramps at Interstate 5 for local access.

Motorists will be advised of these closures utilizing overhead and roadside changeable message signs, as well as closures being viewable on www.quickmap.dot.ca.gov Motorists should expect 10 to 20-minute delays.

The McKinley Avenue interchange will be the city’s first partial cloverleaf. But in order to save money the city opted to build the inner ramp loops at a later date.

That means the initial construction will have all left turns from McKinley Avenue to 120 Bypass onramps go through signalized intersections just as they currently do at the Airport, Union, and Main interchanges. When the loops are completed northbound McKinley Avenue traffic will be able to get onto westbound 120 without going through a traffic signal as would southbound McKinley to eastbound 120.

It will include a separated bike path underneath the 120 Bypass that eventually will connect with the Atherton Drive bike path to provide access to Big League Dreams and the envisioned family entertainment zone.
