Dining for Hope is conducting a Lemonade Stand fundraiser on Saturday, April 13, from 1. to 4 p.m. in the family’s driveway.

It will be the 36th such fundraiser Dining for Hope out of Ripon has done for families with children stricken by cancer.

Diane Giles was moved to start the low-key effort after a teammate on her son Kyle’s baseball team was diagnosed with cancer.

She noted most people aren’t aware of what a family faces when a child is stricken with a disease like cancer.

One parent often has to quit their job to provide full-time care of their child.

There are endless co-payments to make.

Then there are other unexpected expenses associated with treatment.

It includes gas bills that skyrocket because more often than not the specialized physicians and other medical care their child needs is in the Bay Area.

To help such families, Giles and others organize fundraisers like the low-key lemonade stand and other events such as bunco and bingo.
