The Manteca High Thespians will perform “The Addams Family Musical” beginning on Thursday, April 4.

The opening night performance will begin at 7 o’clock.

Admission is $8 for general admission, $8 for students and children.

This spring musical at the Mulvihill Theatre, located at 450 E. Yosemite Ave. (at the corner of Yosemite and Garfield Street), is based on the hilariously dark television classic.

“The Addams Family Musical” under the direction of Dawn Coyan -- she’s the Visual & Performing Arts / Drama Department chair at MHS -- revolves around the lives of the Addams Family and their differences with the rest of the world.

According to Coyan, young Wednesday Addams, in this tale, is the cynical daughter, falls in love with “normal” boy Lucas Beineke and becomes engaged to him.

Upon telling Gomez Addams, the zany and primitive patriarch of the family, of their engagement, Wednesday begs her father to keep this knowledge a secret from her mother, Morticia.

“Her witty character would soon flame into anger if she found out Gomez kept any secret from her,” Coyan noted.

When the Bieneke family visits the Addams mansion for dinner, Gomez struggles to keep this secret from his wife.

The musical humorously explores the difficulties relationships endure and pushes the idea of exposing one’s inner darkness, Coyan added.

“The Addams Family Musical” will also be held on Friday, April 5, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m., and 7 p.m.
