Manteca Interfaith Community Appeal [MICA] is presenting its next Evening of Respect on Wednesday, July 18, with the theme of “Developing Empathy for Others.” The event will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 910 E. North Street, from 7 to 8 p.m., and moderated by Associate Pastor Lisa Brown.

Special guests will include Paul Rengh, leader of the local Valley CAPS; Dacia Goodwin and her daughter, Danicia Booher, who will be translating for her; and Elsa McCoy.  Each of these guests will be discussing the physical, mental, and/or emotional challenges they face, how they have adjusted, and how others around them might be more understanding and empathetic.

MICA was established in 2015, with several local congregations represented. Their mission, in part, is to “…bring together people of various faiths, beliefs, and traditions around common goals of service, education, and peace for all people.” Their goals include showing respect to all, appreciating diversity, and responding to those most in need while promoting those values one activity at a time.

The public is invited to attend this special evening and share an opportunity to see the world a little more clearly through the eyes of people who face great challenges. Modest dress would be appreciated, and refreshments will be served after the meeting.
