Fifth grade students from the Manteca Unified School District will have their math skills on display on Friday.

The inaugural Math Cup is scheduled to take place at the Weston Ranch High gymnasium, 4606 McCuen Ave., Stockton.

The participants in this fun, team-oriented event will be those students from the feeder sites – included will be August Knodt, George Komure and Great Valley elementary schools – doing their best to develop a critical thinking approach towards math.

Each fifth-grade class will be split into teams of five or six.

These small groups will then compete to finish as series of mat questions, which will be scored and totaled by WRHS’ pre-calculus students.

MUSD’s Future Teachers – as part of the future teachers’ program – will help facilitate the event.

The winner based on overall score will receive a large traveling trophy.

The Math Cup will be up for grabs each year.
