StocktonCon 2019
Manteca High product Ramon Villalobos designed the poster for this year’s StocktonCon scheduled Aug. 3-4.

Avengers: End Game, Captain Marvel, Shazam.

It’s been a big year for superheroes on the big screen not to mention a big boost for the upcoming StocktonCon, which is everything pop culture at the Stockton Arena.

Tickets for the eighth annual event presented by Utility Telecom scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 3-4 – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days – are now on sale.

Two-day passes for StocktonCon are available at the pre-sale price of $20 while one-day passes are going for $15 through Aug. 2.

Cost at the door during the event is $20 per day, $25 for both days.

Tickets are available at 30 locations around Northern California or online at http://stocktoncon.com/tickets.

Organizer Mike Millerick remembers when StocktonCon initially kicked off in 2012 as a one-day event at the University of the Pacific’s Spanos Center.

But thanks to overwhelming fan support, this has become one of the top pop culture events on the West Coast, attracting thousands each year to the Stockton Arena.

“A large array of artists, exhibitors and special guests will once again be in attendance at StocktonCon. More than 200 exhibitors and artists will be a part of the fun – with fans in attendance able to find lost treasures and art commissions,” he said.

Locally, Ramon Villalobos, who graduated from Manteca High in 2005, will again be among the impressive list of comic creators at StocktonCon – he also created this year’s event poster for Millerick.

His credits include Young Avengers, WildCATS, E is For Extinction, NightHawk, and America.

Nick Dragotta (East of West, Fantastic Four), Scott Koblish (Deadpool), Dan Brereton (Batman, Nocturnals), and Justin Greenwood (Stumptown, The Last Siege) are among the comic creators on this year’s list.

Wrestling legend Kurt Angle (Saturday only) and John Glover (Smallville, Shazam) are this year’s special guests.

Others in attendance will be voice actors George Newbern (Justice League, Scandal) and Susan Eisenberg (Justice League, Wonder Woman); Power Rangers Austin St. John and Nakia Burrise will also be on the Fun Deck.

For Burrise, who is from Stockton, this will be first appearance at StocktonCon.

The StocktonCon Costume Contest is planned for 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.

The Geek Fashion Show will return after three successful years and will highlight Sunday programming, followed by the StocktonCon Kids Costume Contest.

Pro Wrestling Bushido also returns with squared circle action on both days outside the main entrance to the Arena.

Some of the proceeds from StocktonCon go directly to United Way and other local charities.
