Three juveniles that were believed to be abducted by their parents were found on Monday at a home in Lathrop not long after their father was taken into custody during a traffic stop in Stockton.
Shortly after 11 a.m. on Monday, detectives and patrol deputies from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office found 9-year-old Christopher, 11-year-old Evangeline, and 16-year-old Angelica along with their mother – 35-year-old Karri Dominguez – at a home on the 17000 block of Stone Cellar Way.
Patrol deputies had arrested the children’s father, 49-year-old Michael Pinon, earlier in the day in Stockton when he was a passenger in a vehicle with expired registration.
When officers searched the home in Lathrop, they discovered not only the children and the mother but also reportedly found methamphetamine, meth pipes, and other drugs that were located throughout the house – supposedly in easy reach of all of the children.
Both Pinon and Dominguez were arrested on their outstanding warrants for child abduction, child abuse, and disobeying a court order, and Pinon is current being held on $290,000 bail for felony charges of child stealing and willful cruelty to a child resulting in injury and a misdemeanor charge of defying a court order – charges that he will answer to when he appears in court in Stockton today.
There was no “Karri Dominguez” listed in custody on the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office website as of 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
The children were left in the care of child protective services who were working to find them a home.
Two other children along with two other adults were found inside of the house, and Lathrop Police officers responded and will be handling that portion of the investigation according to the sheriff’s office. According to Lathrop Police, officers documented the living conditions and the contraband that was located inside of the house.
The three children recovered on Monday were considered “at risk” by officials for nearly a week. In a social media post last week the sheriff’s office said that they had requested an Amber Alert – which would have put the notice out statewide – but it was not authorized at the time because officers did not know what vehicle the couple was reportedly driving.
