Developers will be creating three more parks in South Manteca as part of two projects that will add another 472 homes.
A project by Manteca Development Group — the 250-home Orchard Park neighborhood — will include a bonus park as well as a neighborhood park. The new neighborhood will be connected to the existing Griffin Park subdivision that ultimately will include 1,301 homes.
The bonus park will be on the south side of the extension of Tannehill Drive west of South Main Street.
It will consist of two pickleball courts, walking paths, drinking fountain, and a small picnic area.
The neighborhood park is across the street.
It will include a multi-use sports field sized to accommodate youth (U12) soccer, half basketball court informal lawn areas for open play and recreation, synthetic turf exercise area, baseball backstop for casual practice and play, two age-separated playgrounds with rubberized safety surfacing, elevated picnic area with “barn-style” shade structure, secondary picnic areas distributed throughout the park, shade structure designed to evoke a farmers’ market pavilion, seating areas including benches and seat walls, and raised planter seat walls for informal gathering.
The other development with a park is the 202-home Vans subdivision that is west and north of Sedan Avenue where it takes a 90-degree turn east of Alice Road.
The 4.7-acre park will have a unique feature — a dedicated teen/adult exercise area complete with apparatus under a shade structure.
There will also be two age appropriate playground areas.
A hexagonal shade structure with a minimum coverage of 1,000 square feet will include picnic tables, benches, grills, and receptacles. A second shade structure providing additional picnic tables, bicycle parking, and a drinking fountain is located west of the exercise area.
The theme of this park will be “Sky’s the Limit.” The play areas will include clouds, kites, and a hot air balloon, along with related color schemes to make them interesting and inviting.
In addition, two game courts are included near the secondary picnic area. Possible games include cornhole, shuffleboard, pétanque, horseshoes, or non-competitive bocce ball.
The plans will be reviewed by the Parks & Recreation Commission when they meet Thursday, June 11, at 6 p.m.
