Police officers In line for $5K bonus if they OK 3-year deal

Manteca Police officers will receive a one-time $5,000 “signing bonus” if they accept a three-year contract.

The City Council when they meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. the Civic Center, 1001 W. Center St., will consider approving a memorandum of understanding with the Manteca Police Officers Association that runs through June 30, 2026.

The $5,000 will not be counted toward Public Employment Retirement System wages. It is also subject to all applicable taxes.

If the contract is approved, police officers will receive the $5,000 in one lump sum.

Other provisions of the MOU:

*Officers will receive triple overtime working on the Fourth of July.

*Wellness leave will be frontloaded instead of accumulated.

*There is a 1.5 percent pay differential for officers working graveyard patrols.

*It includes three floating holidays.

*A 2 percent cost of living (COLA) increase for the first year commencing Aug. 1, 2023.

*A 2 percent COLA increase on July 1, 2024.

*A 3 percent COLA increase on July 1, 2025.

Under the contract, persons who speak Spanish, Portuguese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, Laotian, Arabic, Assyrian, Punjabi, Farsi, Cambodian, or American Sign Language (ASL) are eligible to receive 5% of their monthly base rate of pay per month in addition to their base rate of pay.

An employee is entitled to receive bilingual pay provided that employee has passed a proficiency examination as determined by the City

Officers assigned to the traffic unit shall receive 5% of their monthly base rate of pay per month in addition to their base rate of pay for all such periods of assignment.

All members assigned to the Police Department's K-9 Unit shall receive 5% of their monthly base rate of pay per month in addition to their base rate of pay for all such periods of assignment.

In addition, the City will pay to board the dog for two weeks per year to coincide with annual vacation weeks; and each member will receive an additional 66 hours of pay annually payable each pay period, for feeding, exercising, and cleanup of the dogs.

Police officer pay based on experience starts at $43.11 an hour or $89,680 per year.

There are eight steps with the highest at $66.06 an hour or $126,189 a year.

Police sergeants at the first step earn $60.67 an hour or $126,200 a year in pay,.

The highest pay step for sergeants is $73.74 an hour or $153,397 a year.
