Ripon’s Jimco building new truck wash

The old truck wash at Jimco Truck Stop along Frontage Road on Highway 99 in Ripon will soon be torn down for a new one on the same site.

Changes at the Jimco Truck Stop are shaping up.

Among the makeover for the longtime Highway 99 fixture included the relocation of the fuel islands and installation of new ones equipped with new canopies coupled with the refurbishing of the onsite buildings.

“The project proponent is now ready to occupy the new truck wash and tear down the old truck wash onsite,” said Panning Director Ken Zuidervaart in his report at the Jan. 11 Ripon City Council meeting.

The proponent is RAT Oil, Inc. and Subtera, LLC, a California Corporation. They entered into a Project Improvement Agreement with the City of Ripon on July 2019.

Elected leaders approved the first amendment agreement to the earlier pact.

They did so with the knowledge that several phased improvements still needing to be done, such as:

  • Installing curb, gutter and sidewalk along Frontage Road.
  • Putting in the landscaping along Frontage Road and Brady Lane.
  • Undergrounding of the overhead PG&E lines.
  • Updating the façade (exterior) of the existing truck mechanic shop.
  • Landscaping of the storm water pond area onsite

In an effort to allow occupancy of the new truck wash while still ensuring that all other improvements are completed, Zuidervaart noted that staff, in recommending the amendment to the Project Improvement Agreement, revised the sequencing of the project.

“Within the amendment, the security funds previously provided for the original Project Improvement Agreement will be used to secure the work related to the remaining site improvements,” he added.

The City, in turn, will provide occupancy of the new trick wash to the owners of Jimco Truck Stop to begin operating the new truck wash while continuing with the other site improvements.
