The Playbox Company at East Union High is presenting a Shakespeare Festival on Friday and Saturday.
Featured will be three one-act versions of William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night, “As You Like It,” and “Romeo & Juliet,” in 15 minutes, at 7 o’clock on both nights.
A 3 p.m. matinee is also scheduled for that Saturday at East Union High, 1700 Union Road.
Cost is $8 and $10. Seating is limited.
In the “Twelfth Night” – about a cross-dressing, ship-wrecked surviving poetry girl who finds herself in the center of a not-so-average love triangle – five actors from the East Union High Visual and Performing Arts Academy will play all the roles in this mad-cap farcical adaptation by Larry Nehring.
The I.E. Clark-adapted “As You Like It” is about a group of courtiers who escape persecution by fleeing to the Forest of Arden. The characters of Rosalind and her cousin Celia to protect their identities. Rosalind, dressed as a boy shepherd, discovers that her love, Orlando, has also escaped into the forest and, in this case, is unable to reveal her true identity.
The Shakespeare Festival concludes with Romeo & Juliet.” Instructor Annette Taser and senior Jorge Martinez co-direct this Shakespeare classic, which ends in a twist.
