Joyce Sebastian wanted to express herself through art.
At Thursday’s Evening of the Arts, the Sierra High senior used ink and water colors for her self-portrait, symbolically consisting of a sea of hands.
“It was a long story,” said Sebastian on she came up with the idea. “But it’s more about social anxiety and the hands (are those) of the many people trying to catch my attention.”
Her personal self-portrait won Best in Show at the 17th annual event held in the school cafeteria.
Sebastian, who entered nine pieces in the art show, is a student in Debbie Pavao’s Advance Placement Art class.
Her Best in Show painting will also be showcased in the Manteca Unified Best of the Show Art Show and Sale on April 29 in the District Office, from 4 to 7 p.m.
The school choir and band also performed at the SHS event.
