Sierra High led by pair of valedictiorians

Sophia Schmiedt is looking forward to seeing her mother during Sierra High’s upcoming graduation ceremonies.

“She’ll be the one handing me my diploma,” said the co-valedictorian of the Class of 2019, referencing 

Clara Schmeidt is the Manteca Unified School District’s Senior Director of Secondary Education.

Her father is Stephen Schmeidt.

Bryanna Gavino shares the honor of co-valedictorian. Both have a 4.42 grade point average.

Bhupinder Kaur, who sported a 4.32 GPA, is the class salutatorian.

She’s the daughter of Jaswinder Singh and Sukhninder Kaur.

Bhupinder Kaur will be attending UCLA, where she’s planning on studying Bio Engineering.

At Sierra, she was involved in Leadership, dance, band, tennis and working the student store.

Gavino is bound for UC Berkeley, where she plans to major in Bio Chemistry. 

She’s the daughter of Elena and Bryant Gavino.

Bryanna Gavino was involved in Jazz band, Marching band, golf and basketball during her days at SHS.

She took great pride in the Visual Arts Club, and even had a film she helped put together on her ethnic culture shown in New York City.

As for Schmiedt, she’ll be attending the University of Oregon after graduation.

Her major will be Civil Engineering.

Schmiedt, in addition, was the recent recipient of the Sandia Science and Math Award for Outstanding Achievement, and was also involved in volleyball, basketball, track, band and student store while at Sierra.
