Teen arrested on car theft charge
crime

The response to a burglary alarm call early Tuesday morning led to a high-speed pursuit and ultimately the arrest of two 17-year-old male juveniles.

According to the Manteca Police the incident began shortly after 3:30 a.m. when an officer checking the area around the 1300 block E. Yosemite Avenue spotted a vehicle leaving the business where the alarm was reported. When the officer activated his emergency overhead lights and siren, the vehicle fled – entering onto southbound Highway 99 at Yosemite Avenue before attempting to navigate the Austin Road exit at a high rate of speed.

The driver – who was later found not to have a license – failed to negotiate the turn at Austin Road and the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree in the field bordering the roadway. Both passengers then fled the vehicle on foot before they were captured.

The vehicle that the 17-year-old was driving had been stolen out of Tracy. The driver was charged with driving without a license, auto theft, possession of stolen property, and felony evading. The passenger was charged with resisting arrest.
