Buena Vista Drive is being extended to Atherton Drive as part of a development agreement for the 818-unit Emblem Manteca project.

The extension as well as widening of Atherton Drive and associated improvements will cost the developer $4.5 million.

The other improvements include sewer, water, and storm drainage systems, curb, gutter, sidewalks, pedestrian path, bus turnout, sewer lift station, a traffic signal at Atherton and Buena Vista, and streetlights.

The new neighborhood, formerly known as Quaterra, includes 672 apartments being built on primarily the northeast quadrant of Atherton Drive and South Main Street and to the south of Atherton.

The remaining 146 housing units will be single family homes and halfplexes.

It includes a large neighborhood park with a water play feature for kids, a cricket pitch, a pickleball court, sand volleyball courts, playground equipment, a dog park, picnic tables with a shade cover, walking paths, restrooms and lighting.

The approval of the final map on Tuesday by the City Council also authorized the abandonment of the portion of East Quintal Road right-of-way along the northern boundary of the map that will become part of a high density parcel.
