Among the volunteer opportunities in the coming weeks is a blood drive at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Ripon, edging at the East Union Cemetery, and hosting a trunk at the Manteca downtown trunk or treat on Halloween.
Up first is the twice-a-year effort to tidy up gravestones at the East Union Cemetery at Union Road and Louise Avenue this Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The non-profit cemetery relies on regular volunteers to cut grass and do other tasks throughout the year.
The trimming of the grass around the gravestones is a task that they need additional help with.
Anyone who can spare a few hours and have their own “weed eater” are asked to help with the effort to keep the gravestones presentable.

The free family event almost includes a disc jockey, food trucks, vendors, character meet and greets, plus mini-pumpkin decorating.
To find out what hosting a trunk involves, call the recreation department at 209-456-8651 or email recreation@manteca.gov.
