Manteca Unified will be hosting the first “Get Fit Day” today at the district office complex on Louise Avenue west of Airport Way from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event was made possible by the district’s School Readiness Parent Advisory Club, with the support of the School Readiness Department. It is part of a concerted effort to combat obesity by promoting healthy choices and body wellness for young children and their families.
MUSD serves over 730 children, including those from birth to 5 years old, with programs located in Manteca, Lathrop, French Camp and Stockton (Weston Ranch area).
Research shows that connections made early in development will leave lasting and visible impressions on the developing minds of children.
According to the Parents Advisory Club, the start of healthy habits early on is the best way for youngsters to achieve long-term health and learning goals.
The “1st Get Fit Day” will also focus on all areas of body wellness, including ways to get children ready for kindergarten and beyond.
The partnership groups will cover:
• Information on healthy life choices that will promote growth and development and combat obesity and early onset diabetes.
• Interactive exhibits and booths appropriate for young children and families.
• Resources and connections to increase healthy changes at home.
• Opportunities to network with other local agencies and businesses for your outreach.
