Marlon Gayle is on paid administrative leave.

That’s according to Superintendent Bill Draa on the status of the principal of Colony Oak School on Monday.

Not much was discussed since it was a personnel matter. “And it was also out of respect for Dr. Gayle,” he said during the Ripon Unified School District meeting.

The decision on the paid leave was handled in closed session by the school board in the Ripon City Hall Council Chambers.

Draa noted that Jesse Calvo, officially, will serve as the “interim” principal at Colony Oak. He was operating out the of the district office as coordinator of English Learner Services.

Gayle, who was previously an assistant principal at Bear Creek High in Stockton, was hired in June to replace Amie Carter. She left to accept a job as principal at a kindergarten- through- eighth-grade school in Marin County.

Gayle has a doctorate in Education Administration from the University of the Pacific, and has taught World History, English, Reading, and Geography at Lodi Unified over the past several years.
