The Manteca Unified School District recently approved a resolution which officially recognizes the contributions of all members of the military to maintaining the life that everyone enjoys in the “land of the free, and the home of the brave.”
The resolution that was unanimously approved by the Board of Education is “in recognition and appreciation of all veterans and their families for their contributions to the freedoms and way of life benefited by all in the United States of America.”
The language of the resolution also “encourages schools to participate in appropriate activities to honor the dedication and sacrifices of our country’s veterans during the week of Veterans day.”
The resolution below, titled “In Honor of our Veterans,” read aloud during the meeting by Trustee Nancy Teicheira, reads, WHEREAS:
• since the beginning of our great nation, individuals from all walks of life have taken up arms and sworn an oath to support and defend the principles upon which our country was founded;
• on the original resolution dated June 4, 1926, these words still ring true, “The importance of Veterans Day is to honor American Veterans for their patriotism, love of our Country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.” (United States Department of Veterans Affairs);
• throughout our history, courageous men and women have donned the uniform for our Armed Forces, were wounded, or even died in battle;
• we continue to draw inspiration from the heroism and dedication of those who currently serve and sacrifice for the cause of liberty and justice;
• the contributions of all service men and women have been, and continue to be vital in maintaining the freedoms and way of life enjoyed by the people of the United States of America;
• the quote, “all gave some, some gave all,” is so fitting for these men and women who honor their country by serving.
