Fifth civil judge restored for SJ

San Joaquin Superior Court, Presiding Judge Jose L. Alva, and Assistant Presiding Judge Linda L. Lofthus have announce the reinstatement of a fifth judge, Elizabeth Humphreys, as a civil direct calendaring judge.
In September 2016, Judge Humphreys will join the other civil judges, Judges Carter P. Holly, Barbara A. Kronlund, Roger Ross and Linda L. Lofthus.  Judge Humphreys will continue to sit in Department 22 in the Stockton Courthouse.
Under the direct calendaring program, civil cases are assigned, as they are filed, to a
judge for all purposes. These cases are managed through a process that assures early involvement by a judge.  Each civil department hears case management conferences, mandatory settlement conferences, law and motion, short cause matters, ex-partes and jury trials.
“The San Joaquin bench will continue to review and access changes and expansions to the San Joaquin Court with input from the San Joaquin Bar and community,” said Judge Alva. “We are doing what we can do to have civil justice be more efficient and cost-effective.”
