YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK (AP) — Authorities say suicide is suspected in the death of a man who apparently jumped from the top of a popular climbing spot in Yosemite National Park.

The Fresno Bee reports the body of the 36-year-old Mariposa man was found Saturday at the bottom of a thousand-foot sheer rock face known as the Rostrum.

The man’s family had filed a missing person report Friday evening, and they told authorities he was suicidal and likely headed to Yosemite.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter crew searched for the man after Yosemite authorities found his car in a turnout along Highway 41 near the Rostrum, just west of Yosemite Valley.
