Just minutes before 2 a.m. Sunday, two men were reportedly shot in the area of Park Avenue and Oregon Street in the South Central Manteca south of downtown in a possible gang related incident.
Manteca Police said numerous shots were heard in the neighborhood as officers responded to find a 26-year-old male victim on the sidewalk in front of a residence in the 200 block of Park Avenue. The man had suffered a single gunshot wound to his lower leg. Officers said he did not provide information as to where the shooting occurred or who was involved or if there were other possible victims or suspects.
Witnesses at the scene said there was another male subject who claimed to have been shot in the head. The victim reportedly had a visible injury to his head, however he had left the area on foot prior to the arrival of police.
Officers made an area check for the injured individual but were unable to locate him. Bullet casings were reportedly discovered at the scene, officers noted. The man with the leg injury was treated by medics and transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injury.
Because the other injured subject could not be located and based on the description of his injury by witnesses as having been shot in the head, a call out of detectives was ordered and detectives responded to process the crime scene and conducted a further investigation.
