Donald Alan Harris passed away in San Jose on May 4, 2026 at the age of 97. Donald was born on September 20, 1928 in Washington State, and he grew up in San Francisco.
Donald was called into active service for the US Navy Reserves in 1948, and was honorably discharged in 1954. He graduated from San Francisco State in 1950, and later received a Master’s Degree in Physical Education from San Jose State University in 1959. Throughout his career, he worked as a Physical Education teacher coaching basketball at Jordan Junior Highschool, then coaching football at Cubberley High school and Gunn Highschool in Palo Alto.
When he was in high school, he met Catherine Clifford through the Methodist Youth Fellowship group. They were married in Burlingame in 1951 and lived in Los Altos until 1991. During that time they enjoyed traveling the world together, and they later moved to Oakdale, California. Donald and Catherine enjoyed lifelong friendships with the Methodist Youth Fellowship group.
Donald is survived by his three children: Margie Croall, Barbara Harris, and Carol Picchini (Ted); five grandchildren: Chris Peavey, Stephen, Randy, Michael, and Allison; and one great grandchild.
Our dad will be remembered for his dedication to his family, joyous holidays, family get-togethers, and for his love of sports. Long live the 49ers and the Giants! There will be a Celebration of Life for Donald at a future date.
