Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Faria, 59, of Escalon, California, passed away on December 12, 2008 at her home.  
Liz was born in Modesto, California, to Henry and Virginia Van Dyk.  She grew up with her sister Gerti among the almond orchards and dairies of Ripon, California. She married dairyman Frank B. Faria of Escalon in 1976 and became a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  Liz was a loving mother to her two children, Natalie and Nicholas.  
Liz’s passion in life was quilting.  She belonged to both the Oakdale and Manteca Quilt Guilds where she often took a leadership role.  She loved to exchange recipes and cook with her daughter.  Throughout life, she was a Democrat who was always up to date on current events.  Always an avid reader, she enjoyed reading science fiction and mystery novels.  Liz loved British culture and humor, watching movies, and listening to classic rock.  She worked as an administrative assistant for the California Dairy Campaign where she made many friends and alliances in the dairy industry.  
Liz is survived by her daughter Natalie Pope of Escalon, her mother Virginia Van Dyk of Ripon, her sister Gerti Vander Schuur of Ripon, her niece Andrea Goodspeed, her nephew Bryan Vander Schuur of San Diego.  Liz is also survived by close family members Dawn Webster, Makayle Neuvert, Frank C. Faria, and Jacob Faria as well as many loving friends and relatives.    
Liz was preceded in death by her son Nicholas Faria in 1999, and her father Henry Van Dyk in 1990.  
Visitation will be held at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon on Thursday, Dec. 18,  from 2 to 5 p.m.  A Rosary/Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Escalon on Friday, Dec.19, at 10 a.m. followed by burial at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.  The family requests that donations be made to the Philanthropists of the Manteca Quilt Guild PO Box 1588 Manteca, CA 95336. Deegan Funeral Chapel is in charge of services.
