Ellen (Brennan) McGuiness, 93, beloved wife of the late Edward W. McGuiness, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 7, 2014, after a period of declining health.
   Born in Somerville, MA, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Margaret (Hartnett) Brennan. She received her education in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1938. Following graduation, she was employed in the billing department for Filenes. After her marriage in 1950, she devoted herself to raising her family.
   A longtime resident of Hamilton, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
   Ellen was also a dedicated parishioner of the Church of St. Paul, an avid knitter and member of Project Linus, and a member of the Hamilton Historical Society. She loved her job and friends at Fleur de Lis, in downtown Hamilton, and was a wonderful storyteller and extensive traveler.
   Ellen was predeceased by her brothers, William Brennan, of Syracuse, NY and Richard Brennan of Somerville.
   She is survived by her sister, Margaret Brennan, of Somerville, as well as her children, Anne Pearson and her husband David of Wenham; William McGuiness of Hamilton; James McGuiness of Manteca, CA; Joan Santarelli and her husband Joseph of Hamilton; Kathleen Johnson and her husband Bradley of Tega Cay, SC; Patricia Sullivan and her husband Daniel of Acton; Michael McGuiness and his wife Janis of Fort Mill, SC; daughter-in-law Jan Rutan of Manteca, CA; sister-in-law Virginia “Ginny” Brennan of Syracuse, NY; and her four nieces.
   She was the cousin of Betty Stoddard of Topsfield and Patricia Szafran of Chicago, IL, and was known as “Nana” to her 12 grandchildren.
   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of St. Paul, 50 Union St., Hamilton, Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be at the Campbell- Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., North Beverly, on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in the Hamilton Cemetery.
