Gary H Schlavin bw

Gary Herman Schlavin passed away peacefully at Kaiser Hospital in Fremont after a lengthy illness.
Gary was born and raised in Oakland where he graduated from Fremont High.  After graduation and many odd jobs, he began his long career with the phone company where he worked first as a lineman, then a foreman, and then a highly respected engineer.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sophie; and his four children, Lauren, Paul, Karen, Jana; his sister Harriett; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother Harvey, and his two sisters Leone and Dorothy and by his granddaughter Lia who he is now rejoicing with in heaven. “Grandpa” was cherished by his family and his love, kindness and sense of humor will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend a luncheon and a time of remembrance for a life well lived on March 21, at noon at the Sunol Valley Golf Club, 6900 Mission Rd., Sunol, Ca
