Margaret Jane Wallace, nee Davis, was born August 31, 1940, at West Point, New York.  She passed away unexpectedly on December 6, 2010, in her home in Manteca.

Margaret had been a resident of Manteca for the past eight years.  She was preceded in death by her father, Hoy D. Davis, Colonel, USA, Retired, and by her mother, Rosamond M. Davis.  She is survived by her sister, Betty Sagaser and Betty’s husband, Robert L. Sagaser, along with nephews, grand - nephews and grand-nieces.

Margaret graduated from Lake Forest College, Illinois, in 1962.  Leading a long, varied career, her last two assignments were as a buyer for Spreckels Sugar Company (until Speckels decentralized), then was the office manager for the American Industrial Supply Company in San Francisco.  When she retired eight years ago, Margaret moved to Manteca.

Margaret, fondly called Peggy by her family, was one of the most empathic souls one would ever meet: she was a caring daughter, sister, wife, aunt and grand-aunt, adopting with equal love all the in-laws and out-laws of her extended family.  Sensitive to everyone’s moods, Margaret was still a fiercely independent person, one holding not only others, but herself as well, to high ethical standards.  She was able to intelligently discuss any era of recorded history, maybe because she continuously read first-hand accounts from multiple centuries.  A highly cultured lady, she had a great appreciation for all the fine arts and knew their values.

If there was a weakness, it was Margaret’s love and devotion to animals.  The cats that crossed her life were taken care, pampered and adored.  Margaret had traveled to observe all the penguin species on the planet, excepting for those in Australia, and her reservations were made for January to do just that.  She had traveled to all the American zoos containing pandas.  Possibly every Wildlife Refuge in the United States received regular contributions from her.

Margaret spent her life being a great person, a good neighbor, a defensive friend and a protective family member.  She will be missed for a long time.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pets & Pals Animal Shelter, 12488 S. Harlan Road, Lathrop, CA. 95376.

Arrangements are under the direction of PL Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca.  All services are private. An online guestbook/Tribute wall is available at www.plfryandson.com, search obituaries for condolences and special messages.
