Margareth Ann Goodman, 85, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 25. She was born on September 17, 1924 in San Francisco. The only child of the late John & Emma Brock, she was raised in the Bay Area and moved to Manteca 27 years ago. In her early years, before staying home to care for her children, she worked a handful of assorted jobs, during WWII when she worked as a volunteer for the US Military pulling supplies to ship to the soldiers; while the tasks were simple but very urgent the volunteers rushed through the warehouse on roller skates. Margareth, together with her husband also managed an apartment complex for a number of years.

Mrs. Goodman leaves behind her cherished family; children, Jim Goodman and companion, Susan Piper of Martinez; Cheryl West of Reno, NV; Don Goodman of Sacramento and Sandy Parks of Concord; and grandchildren, Stacy, Danielle, Dana, Jon, Chuck, Paula and Tex. She was also blessed by 11 great-grandchildren.

Margareth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She treasured her family beyond words and looked forward to their visits and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed the simple things in life; car rides along the coast, sightseeing, and listening to music by Bill Gaither. One of her greatest passions in life was baseball; she loved cheering on her favorite home team the Oakland A’s. Margareth also prized her time down at Sadie’s Salon. There hasn’t been a Thursday in years that she missed her weekly date with her girlfriends for their day of pampering.

Mrs. Goodman is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Orval Goodman; grandson, Todd Goodman and son-in-law, Terry West.

Arrangements are under the direction of P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 North Union Road, Manteca. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 4, from 1 to 5 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will follow on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 12:30 p.m. Mrs. Goodman will be laid to rest next to her husband at East Union Cemetery. Remembrances can be made in Margareth’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. An online guest book is available at www.plfryandson.com for condolences.
