Maria Manuela Vargas, 72, entered into rest peacefully in the home of her brother, on February 1, 2017 in Manteca.  She was born on December 18, 1944 in Faial, Azores, Portugal.  In heaven she joins her loving parents, Manuel Vargas and Maria Do Ceo Silveria Vargas.
   She leaves behind her brother, Joe Vargas of Manteca; niece, Breeann Vargas of Acampo;  great nephews Michael and Madden Fuller of Acampo;  aunt, Maria de Gloria, of Azores, Portugal.  In addition, she leaves many loving cousins throughout California and Azores, Portugal.
   Maria was a Manteca resident over 50 years, originally from Azores, Portugal. Maria attended Pedro Miguel Village School in Faial, Azores, Portugal.  She then went on to attend Manteca High School. While in high school she would master her second language English, and would become an American citizen. She then received her degree as a Dental Hygienist at Sacramento Dental School. She worked for Dr. Lloyd Henry, DDS in Manteca, where she made countless friends. She was a long time member of St. Anthony’s Church, The Legion of Mary, Portuguese Fraternal Society of America and Manteca Senior Center. Maria loved traveling to her native, Faial, Azores to visit her family. Maria will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed by all.

   P.L. Fry is honored to serve the Vargas family.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary immediately following.  Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 505 East North Street, Manteca, CA.  She will be laid to rest at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Escalon, CA.
