Melvin Dale Leiske, 92, entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011 in Manteca. He was born on October 21, 1918 in North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Helen Leiske as well as his infant son Dorian Dean Leiske and granddaughter Jennifer Wheelwright.   

 Melvin leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Marjorie Leiske of Manteca. His children are Regina Cherie Smith and husband Lester of Nevada, Cheryl Kay Spence and husband John of OH, Terry Lee Leiske of Lodi and Dawn Marie Leiske of Santa Rosa. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren; Vicky, Scott, Jeff, James, Gregg, Andrew, Christopher, Ryan and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He had one surviving sibling Evelyn Collins of Nevada.

 Melvin was the owner and operator of Guthmiller and Leiske Trucking Company. Melvin served his country proudly for two years in the US Army.  He was the first electric welder of Manteca and he worked many years for the Sharp Army Depot. He was a member of the Manteca Presbyterian Church, The Elk’s Lodge of Tracy where he was Chaplain and a very proud member of the American Legion Hall of Manteca and V.F.W of West Point, CA. He enjoyed hunting and spending time on his farm where he taught his daughters all about tending to their many animals.  He loved his wife dearly and held a special place in his heart for his loving daughters and grandchildren.  He will be remembered as a devoted husband, cherished father and special grandfather. He will be deeply missed.

Arrangements for Mr. Leiske’s are being handled by P.L. Fry and Son Funeral Home of Manteca. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 1 to 5 p.m.  A service will be held on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 1 p.m. at P.L. Fry and Son Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Park View Cemetery, 3661 French Camp Road, Manteca.
