Mildred White was born on June 6, 1924, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and passed away September 21, 2019, in Modesto, California, at age 95.  Mildred was the middle of seven children born to Grace (Cantrell Green) and James Henry Gillum.  She attended school in Tahlequah and in nearby country schools.  A good student, she skipped two grades, she  was only 14 and looking forward to junior year in high school when her father told her she would have to leave school to work and help support the family during the depths of the Great Depression.
In the spring of 1940, she married Gus White.  they set up housekeeping in a log cabin.  During World War II they moved to Stockton, California, where Gus worked as a welder in the shipyards.  In 1942, the first of their three sons, Edwin, was born followed by Jimmy in 1944 and Carl in 1945.  The family moved to Manteca in 1954.  Mildred worked in canneries, in waitressing, and in catering.  Mildred’s sister, Wanda Holden with her husband Al, also moved to the Stockton area.  Thee two families spent most of the holidays together so cousins Ken, Fred, and Marilyn Holden were very close to Mildred’s boys and dear to Mildred all her life.
Mildred loved puzzles and board games.  Her grandchildren have happy memories of playing Yahtzee , Scrabble, Aggravation, Zilch and many other games she kept handy.  She crocheted as long as her eyesight permitted.  She was able to live in her own home until she was 94 thanks to her wonderful friends George and Helen Markham.  for years George would bring Mildred her mail and sit and “take his break” visiting with her.  Helen cooked supper for Mildred, and George brought it to her each night.  their loving care of Mildred enabled her to enjoy life in her home long after macular degeneration and hearing loss would otherwise have made that impossible.
Mildred was proceeded in death by her parents, Grace and Henry; her sisters Wanda Holden and Evelyn Decker, her brothers Cletus, Norwood, Vernon, and Lelan Gillim, her husband Gus (1997), son Jimmy (2001), son Carl (2007), and grandson Carl Jr. (2017).
She is survived by her son Ed (Joyce) and her grandchildren, Carrie Fields (Jeff), Chris White (Leah), Tammy Brandsasse, Jimmy White Jr., Jamie Maschado (Bobby), Jodie Eme (Jon), Jeff McRorie (Tina), and Laura Covert (John).  Additionally, she leaves 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews, and friends.  in accordance with her wishes there will be no services.
