Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
Shelley Hannah lived in Manteca for many years and in June of 2003 she moved to New York. While living in Manteca she gained many friends while working at a school and attending Crossroads Grace Community Church.
In 2000 Shelley was diagnosed with LAMS disease.
After arriving in New York she had many health issues, so in March of 2007 she started the prep for a lung transplant. She needed to raise $10,000 before she could even begin the process.
Friends from Crossroads Church organized a garage sale in the summer of 2007 and thanks to the generosity of all involved - she was given a check for $2,500. Then a “Doggie Wash” was held at the Community Pet Clinic and another $1,000 was raised. There were other fund raisers in New York such as car washes (organized by her kids), a concert and a McDonalds event. They raised the needed $7,000. So, with the $10,000 in the bank, she began the process for the lung transplant.
She was turned down by Cleveland Clinic and ended up at UPMC months later for the actual lung transplant. She had two “false” calls before she had the actual transplant on Nov. 6, 2009. She was in the hospital for four months.
Her husband Matt was with her throughout the entire time with the hospital ordeal and the years of sickness. Her children, Bobby and Charlene, were with her when they could be.
She got to go home February 9, 2010 - is feeling great and in Pulmonary Rehab to regain her strength. She will revisit UPMD March 30 for routine lab work.
Shelley is so thankful to the Manteca community and her community in Brockport, NY, for all the help and support she got.
The fund raisers, cards, calls and encouragement helped get her through along with the prayers to her heavenly Father.
