Wet weather has pelted the area with more rain in the forecast.

For the City of Ripon, this comes as welcoming news considering its efforts to reduce water usage.

At last weeks Ripon City Council meeting, Ted Johnston reported that the conservation efforts for December was at 15 percent.

The Director of Public Works used the December 2013 water levels as his baseline comparison.

“Our running tally is at 25 percent,” Johnston said, using a yearly formula for the total.

Ripon’s established goal per month is 30 percent for water conservation.

“December was a dry month,” Mayor Michael Restuccia said.

In November, Ripon cut back on water usage was strong, registering at 24.9 percent – incidentally, the previous month(October) was at 13.5 percent.

Residents are currently on a once-a-week watering schedule through the end of February.

By that, all properties within the City with an even numbered address are only allowed to water landscaping on Saturday.

Those with an odd numbered address can only do so on Sunday.
