Manteca High’s wrestling team ended its Valley Oak League dual season on a positive note, beating crosstown rival East Union 45-36 Wednesday at Winter Gym.

The Buffaloes (3-4) also dispatched first-year varsity Kimball of Tracy, 41-27. East Union also defeated the Jaguars, 48-34, but trailed 22-6 early on.

Manteca was led by three grapplers who went 2-0.

Sean Cerveny clinched the crosstown contest for Manteca with his 2-minute, 41-second pin of Steven Bordenave in the final individual match of the night, which was at 160 pounds. Cerveny earlier pinned Kimball’s Marco Tello in 1:41.

Lightweight Charlie Alvitre pinned East Union’s girls wrestling standout, Sarah Phillips in 1 minute, 30 seconds and dominated his Kimball opponent in a decision victory.

Alvitre capped Manteca’s 27-0 that started the East Union match. Phillips, meanwhile, jump started EU’s comeback charge against Kimball by pinning Deigo Alvarenga in 3:22.

Gabe Osorio was also impressive. First, he edged out Kimball’s Cameron Diaz, 2-1. During the East Union match, he built a 14-7 lead before stopping Jose Manzano in 2:46.

Standing out for East Union (2-5) was 119-pounder Peter Barrington, who beat both Kimball’s Markus Fontaine (1:18) and Manteca’s Jacob Bertram (1:16) by fall.

Bertram, however, posted the fastest varsity pin of the double-dual event, stopping Fontaine in 53 seconds.
