Buffs close in on undefeated first half

Manteca High’s girls tennis team coasted to a routine a 9-0 win over visiting Kimball Thursday, improving to 6-0 in the Valley Oak League and 9-2 overall.

The No. 1 singles match was the only contest to get stretched out to a third set. Manteca’s Rosa Zou assured the team shutout by beating Krishna Sakara 10-4 in the third-set tiebreaker. Zou came back after dropping the first set 4-6 by winning the second, 7-5.

Also in singles play, Wendy Lin (6-3, 6-2), Adaeze Nkwocha (7-5, 6-3), Weley Lin (6-1, 6-1), Jenny Yu (6-2, 6-0) and Noha Elabed (6-2, 6-1) contributed to the landslide victory.

The No. 1 doubles team of Kaile Hunt and Liz Diaz remain undefeated with their 6-1, 6-1 triumph. The Julia Saling-Sealy McAdams (6-1, 6-3) and Elizabeth Tolbert-Katie Inderbitzin (6-0, 6-1) tandems were also victorious.

The Buffaloes close out the first half of the league schedule in Oakdale next Tuesday.

Junior varsity

Sierra 8, Lathrop 2

Jaynah Palma accounted for Lathrop’s only singles victory, 6-4, in one of 10 single-set matches played. The doubles pair of Irene Mathews and Mary Woods prevailed in a 6-4 set for the Spartans’ other point.

Winning for Sierra were: Simran Thind (6-0, 6-4 [two matches]), Nidia Contreras (6-2), Megan Carbiender (6-3), Crystal Hernandez-Carbiener (6-2), Lynda Crescini-Maria Vazquez (6-2), Michelle Swanson-Laryssa Coussman (6-2) and Hannah Goe-Mia Perez (6-2.
