Buffs make statement with win at Oakdale

OAKDALE — Manteca closed the first half of Valley Oak League play with an impressive 8-1 win at Oakdale, one of the Buffaloes’ main threats to their bid for the championship.
Oakdale’s lone point came from No. 1 singles player Tay Talamentes, who defeated Taylor Corona, 6-2, 6-3. Manteca swept the rest, getting one of its more one-sided wins from No. 6 singles player Makenna Condit (6-1, 6-1).
Koryn Menasco toppled Carley Newbill 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles match. Julia Tang outlasted Danika Brown 6-2, 6-3 from the No. 3 spot. Stephanie Mercado (6-2, 6-0) and Gladis Sandoval (6-2, 6-4) rolled for wins at No. 4 and 5, respectively.
After a hard-earned first set, Manteca’s top doubles tandem of Rav Dhillon and Navina Mann raced a 7-5, 6-1 win over Taryn Lane and Shannen Yeng. In No. 2 doubles, Julianne Eavanson and Noeli Mercado held off McKenzie Brown and Lijan Bacud, 6-2, 6-4. Monica Lozano and Prerna Singh prevailed at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, 6-2.

Sierra 8, Kimball 1
TRACY — Carly Cunial and Sydney Huynh helped clinch the match early for the second-place Timberwolves (6-1).
Cunial edged out Rachel Sampayan 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles match, and No. 6 Huynh ended up rolling to a 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 win over Maaham Hassan. Kaitlyn Rausa (6-3, 6-2), Claire Banks (6-0, 6-1) and Nadia Petrovic (6-1, 6-0) cruised to straight-set victories in the Nos. 1-3 contests.
Sierra was just as dominant at doubles, getting one-sided wins from Louisa Hunter/Alyssa Patterson (6-4, 6-1), Krista Harris/Alejandra Pacheco (6-1, 6-0) and Diana Duenas/Natalie Rootaert (6-1, 6-1).

Central Catholic 6,
East Union 3
No. 2 singles player Natalie Karim outlasted Lauren Aja 6-2, 1-6, 16-14 for an East Union point.
Fuko Inoue won the No. 1 match-up, 6-1, 6-1, while No. 1 doubles partners Cynthia and Marilyn Civil added a 6-4, 6-4 victory for the lancers (1-5).

Weston Ranch 7, Lathrop 2
LATHROP — Seniors Jaskirat Kaur (6-1, 6-2), Alyssa Ryan (6-4, 6-3), Deepa Singh (6-2, 6-2, Jasdeep Hothi (6-4, 6-2) and Mahlet Belay (6-1, 6-2) earned singles wins for Weston Ranch.
Erica Carlson and Eona DeGuzman gutted out a 7-6 (2), 6-4 win in the No. 1 doubles match after trailing 2-5 in the opening set. Jella Batac and Jesmeen Kaur topped off the Cougars’ second win of the season with a 6-1, 7-6 (3) victory.
Scoring for Lathrop were No. 3 singles Eden Baca (7-5, 6-2) and No. 2 doubles Mayo Ortiz/Leslie Barraza (6-4, 7-5).
