Fontenot, Camara pave the way to Lancers win

RIPON — Briona Fontenot and Katrina Camara both had big night’s for the East Union sophomore girls basketball team Friday night in a 49-33 win over Ripon.
Fontenot finished with 14 points and six steals, while Camara turned in 14 points and six rebounds.
Milissent Puahi-Oiagca had nine points, four steals and four assists, while Morgan Hulsebosch chipped in eight points.
Hannah Allen paced the Indians with 19 points and eight rebounds, and Mariah Cardenas scored 10.
East Union moved to 5-2, while Ripon slipped to 2-7.

Boys
Sophomore
Bear Creek 53, East Union 43
East Union led at halftime 25-23, but couldn’t sustain it as too many second-half turnovers told the tale.
Daniel Ruiz had 11, and Logan Miller had eight.

Freshman
Beyer 42, Sierra 39
Joseph Berry had 19, John Waggy six, and Aneal Sohota four in the T’Wolves’ loss.
“We had an open look at a last-second shot,” Sierra head coach Mahlon Lott said. “It just didn’t fall for us. But we are improving.
Sierra (1-1 Valley Oak League, 2-3 overall) hosts Modesto Tuesday before kicking off the Manteca Block M Tournament Dec. 27.

Tokay 44, Manteca 43
Ruben Stewart had 12, Stanley Walker 11, and Alex Martinez 10 in the nailbiting loss.
“We were inconsistent at times,” Manteca head coach Dave Fontanilla said. “We were just unable to catch up with them in the second half.”
Manteca (5-3 overall) hosts the Block M Tournament starting Dec. 27.
