GIRLS SOCCER: Cello’s 5 goals highlight Sierra drubbing of Lathrop

The Sierra girls soccer team kicked off its annual Vern Gebhardt Cup tournament Thursday night with a one-sided 9-0 drubbing of Lathrop.
Tiana Cello fired five goals, and Juliana Rodriguez contributed three assists. Nicole Martin added two goals, while Jenna Villanueva and Jocelin Roa had one apiece. Julianne Munoz had two assists. Preeya Singh, Michaela Bitle, Annalise Paule and Roa each had one assist.
Bitle also had two saves at goalie, splitting the role with Veronica Botelo.
Sierra takes on Central Valley this morning at 10:45 in the Platinum Division. Lathrop plays Livingston also at 10:45.

Golden Valley 2, East Union 1
MERCED — Golden Valley (2-0-1) scored the tying goal on a penalty kick in the first half and jumped ahead in the 73rd minute.
East Union (1-2) struck first when Thania Valencia scored on Cynthia Romero’s assist. The Lancers head to Sierra today for the Gebhardt Cup and will play Gregori and West at 9:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m., respectively.
