Sienna Jones and April Duarte highlighted local runners with top-10 finishes Thursday in the Jaguar Invitational hosted by Kimball at Eagal Lakes.
All varsity races were trimmed to 2 miles because of extreme heat.
Jones of Manteca High placed third in 13 minutes, 3.8 seconds behind the Sheldon (Elk Grove) tandem of Alana Farve (12:29.3) and Getzabell Pacheco (12:34.5). Sheldon came away with the varsity girls team title.
East Union’s April Duarte took eighth in 14:06.4.
Linda Medrano, also of East Union, finished in 11th place in 14:16.4. Manteca sophomore Jordyn Hegarty was 17th in 14:27.1.
In the team standings, Lathrop finished in fourth place with 131 points, while Ripon Christian took seventh with 150. Deisy Carrasco paced Lathrop (22nd, 15:19.8), while Anika Schoolland (27th, 15:53.0) was the top placer out of Ripon Christian.
In varsity boys, Dax Daley (10:33.1), Caleb Cavanaugh and Jackson Oliveira went 1-2-3 to spearhead Oakdale to the team crown. Lathrop’s Michael Salcedo was the top runner from the area, finishing in 12th place in 11:16.2.
Aron Camacho (18th, 11:33.1) and Nathan Puck (20th, 11:48.3) also made the top 20 for the Spartans, who placed third as a team with 105 points. Oakdale tallied 20 points in its dominant victory.
East Union (fourth, 141) was led by Ian Rodriguez (22nd, 12:00.5), William Story (24th, 12:01.5) and Daniel Medina (27th, 12:14.3).
Oscar Angel took 21st in 11:56.3 for Manteca, and teammate Isaiah Arechiga was 25th with a 12:05.4 time. The Buffaloes placed seventh as a team with 184 points. Ripon Christian took 12th with 326 points.

The Knights (4-2) took care of the Valley Oak League co-champions on back-to-back nights. After beating Manteca in four sets Wednesday, they swept at Central Catholic, 25-23, 25-23, 25-8.
Jordan Vander Veen led them with nine kills and nine blocks, while Ava Van Groningen registered six kills and three blocks. Leah Van Wyngarden chipped in 13 digs and six aces. Megan Weststeyn finished with 22 assists, and Olivia Ozenbaugh had three blocks.
Lathrop 3, Ceres 1
Lathrop (1-0, 3-1 overall) staved off a late charge from Ceres to secure the Western Athletic Conference-opening win, 25-18, 25-16, 16-25, 26-24.
Janessa Ward powered the Spartans with 13 kills, nine digs and three aces. Azul Maldonado racked up nine kills, five digs and four aces. Elizabeth Andrade had six kills, nine digs and two aces.
Camila De La Garza amassed 31 assists, five aces and five digs. Irais Martinez collected 27 digs.

Lathrop opened Western Athletic Conference play Tuesday with two close losses at Pheasant Run Golf Club in Chowchilla.
Sara Sardar led the Spartans with a 65. Sanah Sunner contributed a 69, Manjot Kaur a 73, Mya Grisham a 74 and Morgan Penko a 75.
Arlet Leon was Pacheco’s top scorer with a 60.

Gabbi Ilardi scored an even 31 at Escalon Golf Course, edging out teammate Katie Martin by one stroke and Escalon’s Lucy Albaugh by two in the Valley Foothill League North Division match.
Aaliyah Martinez (40), Vivian Parsons (41) and Anna Fisher (43) round out scoring for the Indians, who improved to 3-0 in league.

Hannah Stewart spearheaded the Spartans balanced scoring effort with four goals on Wednesday.
Sophia Moreno, Kalani Soriano and Nishitha Kadiyala each had three. Camila De La Garza Garcia, and Elizabeth Rodriguez netted two apiece. Alena Medina Aguilar scored one.

Christian Buerster amassed nine goals, as the host Spartans held on for the win.
Connor Giovannoni and Alan De La Garza Garcia each scored twice, and Pau Del Val Roca chipped in one.

The Spartans started WAC action on the right foot, defeating Ceres on the road, 25-14, 18-25, 15-12.
Milyn Morales stood out with six kills, four aces and two digs. Annie Millan added five kills, three aces and three digs. Setter Julia Roaquin handed out 16 assists, and Justine Mabutas contributed 23 digs.

Shakara Porter paced the Spartans with five kills and two aces in the 20-25, 8-25 defeat.
