Ripon edges Escalon in thriller

East Union’s Leo Bonilla ran for one touchdown and returned an interception for another to lead the Lancers to a 34-20 Valley Oak League sophomore win over Sierra High on Friday at Dino Cunial Field. 

Bonilla had 126 yards on 18 carries with a 15-yard touchdown run and a touchdown on a 7-yard interception return. Eric Morales (7 of 12 passing, 156 yards) had touchdown throws of 28 yards to Lorenzo Contreras (five receptions, 88 yards) and 33 yards to Nicco Cedolini (two receptions, 35 yards). Cedolini scored another touchdown when he recovered a fumble in the end zone. 

Shane Johnson (eight carries, 133 yards) threw and 18-yard pass to Nyco Mendoza for the Timberwolves and scored on runs of 50 and 65 yards. Johnson recovered two fumbles, one of which set up his touchdown throw to Mendoza.

 

Trans-Valley League

Ripon 29, Escalon 28

RIPON – After trailing 28-14 at halftime the Indians rallied for the thrilling one-point win. 

Danny Hernandez (nine carries, 88 yards) and Brandon Rainer (9 rushes for 88 yards) each scored two touchdowns. Nico Ilardi was 10 of 14 passing for 79 yards with Troy Brogan hauling in six receptions for 55 yards and scoring the winning two-point conversion.

Nathan Valdez made a key fumble recovery in the fourth quarter for Ripon.
